Herkes inanacak bir şeyler arar. Rahip Frank Shore (Ed Haris) mucizelerin arkasındaki gizemi araştıran bir kilise görevlisidir. Yaşadığı bir olayın ardından mucizelere olan inancını yitiren Rahip Shore'a "Mucize Katili" lakabı takılır ve bu durum onu buhrana sürükler. Rahibe manastırındaki heykellerden birinin gözünden kandamlaları gelmeye başlayınca, Rahip Shore'dan şifalı gözyaşları olduğuna inanılan Katolik Helen O'Regan'ın ölümünü araştırması istenir. Araştırmaya başlayan rahip, Helen O'Regan'ın kendisi gibi inançlı olamayan kızı Roxane'e (Anne Heche) ulaşır. Roxane, annesini onu terk etmesinin ardından asla affetmemiştir. Helen davası ve Roxane'e duyduğu hisler arasında bocalayan Rahip Shore, kiliseye kendini kanıtlamalı ve "Şeytan'ın Avukatı" Archbishop Werner'i (Armin Mueller-Stahl ) Helen'in bir azize olduğuna ikna etmelidir. |
