Bu seferki görev ise çoktan çökmüş olan dünyayı ve beraberinde insanlığı daha temiz bir dünyaya taşımak. Tıpkı Prometheus'yi çağrıştırırcasına, Yunan mitolojisine göndermeler içeren Elysium'da, 2154 yılında dünyada hala varlığını sürdürebilen yegane iki sınıfın çatışması temel alınmakta. Elysium'un varsıl ve şanslı "egemenleri" teknoloji alanında üst düzey bir gelişim gösteren gezegenlerinde lüks içerisinde yaşarken; "çürümüş dünya"da geri kalan kalabalık insan topluluğu tedavi ihtiyaçları için bile Elysium'a ihtiyaç duymaktadır. Ancak iki gezegen arasında yapılan anlaşmalar gereğince Elysium'a girmeleri kesin suretle yasaktır. Ta ki Elysium'a gitmekten başka çaresi kalmayan Max isimli sıradan bir adam çıkana dek... "Büyülü-Gerçekçi" tonlardaki temasıyla, 2154 yılının atmosferine dair, futuristik bir sınıf-çatışması filmi olarak Elysium, özellikle hard-core bilimkurgu hayranlarına hitap ediyor.
