Filmede, mutsuz bir ev ortamında ve yapaylığın hüküm sürdüğü çevrede kendisini yabancı gibi hissederek yaşayan genç Sean Boswell (Lucas Black) için sokak yarışlarına katılmak, yaşadığı hayatın mutsuzluklarından bir nebze olsun kaçış gibidir. Ancak sokak yarışlarına duyduğu büyük ilgi onu yerel yetkililerin gözünde sevimsiz bir genç yapmıştır. Katıldığı yarışlarda kazalar birbirini izleyince oğlunun hapse gireceğinden endişe eden annesi onu Japonya'nın başkenti Tokyo'da yaşayan sert mizaçlı asker babasının yanına göndermek zorunda kalır.
