Şimdi aradan geçen yılların ardından Montage of Heck, Cobain’in hayatına hiç olmadığı kadar detaylı bir bakış atıyor. Senaristliğini ve prodüktörlüğünü Brett Morgen’in yaptığı proje, Kurt Cobain hakkındaki gelmiş geçmiş en detaylı belgesel olma özelliğini taşıyor. Çünkü projeye Cobain’in yakınları büyük katkı vermiş. Eşi Courtney Love, Kurt Cobain’e dair birçok kişisel görüntü, ses kaydı ve bilgiyi Morgen ile paylaşmış. Morgen; “Courtney bana içi Kurt Cobain ile ilgili eşyalarla dolu kocaman bir deponun anahtarını verdi ve ne bulursan kullanabilirsin dedi” diyerek belgeselin ne kadar kişisel olduğunu anlatmak istiyor.Belgeselde birçok fotoğraf, video ve ses kaydı orijinal haliyle kullanılmış. Bunlar arasında Cobain ve Love’ın ev hallerini gösteren video ve fotoğraflar da var. Ayrıca Nirvana’nın bazı yayınlanmamış şarkılarından oluşan dinletiler de belgeselde mevcut. Bazı anılar ise animasyonlarla canlandırılmış.Projeye destek veren diğer isimleri başında Cobain – Love çiftinin çocukları Frances Bean Cobain ve Nirvana’dan Krist Novoselic bulunuyor.Belgeselin ismi ise Kurt Cobain’in 1988 yılında kaydettiği bir müzik kolajından geliyor.
