Oynadığı siyasal rol, öğretisinden ve mistik etkisinden kolayca kestirilebilir. Neredeyse hiç bilinmeyen yapıtlarının sistemli bir incelemesi yapılmadığından, öğretisine ve mistik etkisine ilişkin öğeleri anlamak kolay değildir. Üstelik Bedreddin’in isyanı, tarihçi olsun olmasın birçok yazarın ilgisini çekmiş olduğundan; kimi zaman biraz üstünkörü bir biçimde İslam ve Türk tarihinde, kendi türünde tek vaka olarak görülmüştür (Şeyh Bedreddin Tasavvuf ve İsyan-Michel Balivet).
