Summary, etc Metodist kilisesine bağlı olan Pete Banning, serin bir ekim sabahı yola çıktı, kasabadaki kiliseye girdi ve arkadaşı olan Rahip Dexter Bell’e soğukkanlılıkla üç el ateş etti. Cinayet kadar şaşırtıcı olan bir başka şey de katilin avukatlarına, yargıca, jüriye ve kendi ailesine söylediği tek cümleydi: *Söyleyecek bir şeyim yok!* Banning idam edilmekten korkmuyordu ve sırrını elektrikli sandalyeye götürmeye hazırdı.
