Özet: Commissioned by powerful kings between the ninth and seventh centuries BC, these carved images are witnesses to their achier achievement. The book presents a photographic tour of some of these sculptures from ancient Iraq. An introductory chapter sets the sculptures in their cultural and art-historical context, and surveys the artistic traditions in which they are rooted. An exploration of the changing styles of carving through time then leads the reader from early symbolic scenes of royal achievements to the final flourishing of Assyrian sculpture, in which the raw emotion and energy of animalgs and humans is captured with vitality.--Publisher.
